Day Of Fire debuts in Rock Band

Lately by Day Of FireDay Of Fire have collaborated with Noisy Puppet to bring the heavy groove of “Lately” to the Rock Band Network. This track has some tricky guitar parts in the choruses, and the kind of solo that real plastic guitar experts love. If you’re tackling the drums, it may take you a few runs through before you learn where to deploy your overdrive for maximal effect. Some of the authored drum fills might take you down. The bass part rolls just like the guitar with some busy figures and a heavy groove. And don’t worry, vocalists. There are plenty of fun vocal hooks to sing.

This track is from Day of Fire’s third album LOSING ALL, a powerful hard-rock record that explores the real meaning of rebirth. For Day of Fire, LOSING ALL isn’t about despair and endings, but hope and fresh starts.
“Lately” is the first single off the album – a churning swirl of riffy metal, that features the growling, ‘Memories cutting like a razor blade/Pushin’ through the pain ’til it fades away.’ So what’s the song really about? “Just letting go of all the crap, man,” Brown says. Simms, who wrote the chorus on the way to a European show during a time of business turmoil, calls the track “a release for me,” and explains, “It’s about letting go of the things that have been clouding your mind, and hopefully will give people a reason to chase their dreams that may have been shattered by someone telling them that they could never achieve it.”

Lately is available today in the “Rock Band Network Store” on Rock Band for Xbox 360. Click here to hear an audio preview and buy the track online.

More Jonathan Coulton released on Rock Band!

You loved “Code Monkey”. Now check out “Chiron Beta Prime”, the next song from indie folk rock iconoclast Jonathan Coulton to be authored by Noisy Puppet. This is the Christmas song you want to play all year round.

Sung from the voice of an annual family newsletter, this track describes Christmastime with a family banished to an asteroid by a robot council of the future. Chugging guitars alternate with picking parts to keep your fingers entertained, while a snappy drum part sucks you into the catchy pop elegance. Stop playing Starcraft II and practice your rock star-craft with “Chiron Beta Prime”, available tomorrow on Xbox 360.

Two classic black metal tracks from Emperor released in Rock Band

Emperor's Inferno Live albumToday not one, but two songs, “Curse You All Men (Live)” and “Inno A Satana (Live)”, are available for download on Rock Band 2 for Xbox 360. Both tracks are from Emperor’s 2009 double CD album release “Live Inferno”, also sold with an accompanying DVD featuring video of the live performance.

These tracks will put you through the ringer on every instrument. It’s a struggle to survive, but once you master these tracks you have lived through one of the most intense, powerful, rock game-play ever seen. The guitar charts in both songs are a torture session that seems to never end. And the Expert drum chart in “Curse You…” is the most difficult challenge ever seen in a music video game. You may need a friend to play the kick drum pedal for you, just to play half the hits from the live performance.

Free demos of “Curse You All Men (Live)” and “Inno A Satana (Live)” are available to Xbox LIVE members. See how tame the rest of your library feels after you attempt these songs.

Emperor are the Norwegian black metal of lore. When attention first focused on Norway’s almost cartoonishly violent black metal scene in the mid-’90s, most of the critical accolades were bestowed upon Emperor, whose musical innovations have had more impact on the genre than any other band. While their music can be furious and violent, the group is also influenced by the darkly majestic melodies of Norwegian folk and classical music, which very effectively supports their lyrical subject matter. Emperor evoke not only Satanic horror, but also the frigid loneliness of bleak Scandinavian winters; additionally, images of pagan nature worship recalled an ancient, idealized pre-Christian past in which Scandinavian culture was one of the world’s most dominant (resulting in the sound being tagged “Viking metal” by some).
